As many as 1,588 terrorist incidents were reported across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the current year, resulting in the martyrdom of 223 civilians and 137 police personnel, while hundreds of others, including members of various law enforcement agencies, sustained injuries, according to a police report released.
The report said that 570 civilians were injured in the incidents, highlighting the continued toll of terrorism on the civilian population. It added that 236 police personnel were also wounded in attacks carried out in different parts of the province.
According to the report, 18 personnel of other law enforcement agencies embraced martyrdom during the year, while the Federal Constabulary suffered heavy losses, with 124 of its personnel martyred and 244 injured in terrorist incidents.
The police report said that 348 terrorists were killed in various counter-terrorism operations conducted across the province during the year, reflecting ongoing efforts by security and law enforcement agencies to counter militant violence.
Region-wise data showed that the Bannu region recorded the highest number of terrorist incidents, with 394 cases registered during the year. The report said that Bannu also suffered significant losses, with 41 police personnel martyred and 89 injured, while 54 civilians lost their lives and 125 sustained injuries in the region.
In the Dera Ismail Khan region, 152 cases of terrorism were registered, during which 137 terrorists were killed in security operations, the report said.
The report further stated that North Waziristan recorded 181 terrorism-related cases, where 38 civilians were martyred and 182 injured. In South Waziristan, 103 cases were registered, resulting in the martyrdom of 39 civilians and injuries to 86 others.
The report underscored the persistent security challenges faced by the province, particularly in its southern districts, while noting that counter-terrorism operations remain underway to curb militant activity and improve overall security.
