Last night, terrorists affiliated with Fitna-al-Khawarij attempted attacks on Thana Ghoriwala and Thana Wazir in Bannu, but both attacks were successfully repelled by the prompt and effective response of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police. In both incidents, police personnel and infrastructure remained completely unharmed.
At Thana Ghoriwala, the attack commenced around 11:45 PM, with terrorists approaching from two directions. Following approximately ten minutes of intense exchange of fire, the attackers were forced to retreat. Similarly, at Thana Wazir, terrorists opened fire from the adjoining hills with light and heavy weapons. The engagement lasted about 25 minutes, after which the attackers fled under effective police counteraction.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, commended the bravery and dedication of the police personnel involved in successfully thwarting the attacks, stating that the courageous actions of KP Police personnel remain a formidable barrier against the malicious objectives of the enemy. He emphasized that a small group of terrorists will never be allowed to threaten the public and assured that they will be eliminated.
He further praised the professional skills and valor of Bannu police, highlighting their capability to effectively counter any terrorist aggression. “The police teams displayed exceptional courage and expertise in foiling both attacks,” he remarked.
DIG Bannu Region, Sajjad Khan, also lauded the bravery of the police officers, noting that the Bannu Region Police are fully capable of confronting terrorism decisively. He emphasized that the professional competence, alertness, and courage of the force once again demonstrated that the struggle against terrorism will continue until its complete eradication. He praised the timely and effective response of all officers, affirming that Bannu Police remain vigilant and committed to protecting the lives and property of the public at all times.
