A ceremony was held at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines in Peshawar, where Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed formally handed over modern security equipment and bulletproof vehicles to senior officers representing various districts and specialized police units.

Elite Force Receives Largest Share

According to officials, the Elite Force, which often leads high-risk counterterrorism operations, received the largest share of protective gear. The unit was provided with 2,000 bulletproof jackets and 500 ballistic helmets to enhance the safety of personnel deployed in combat and rapid-response roles.

Security Boost for Peshawar

To improve security in the provincial capital, the Peshawar Police received 400 ballistic helmets, two walk-through security gates, and four single-cabin pickup vehicles to strengthen patrol and checkpoint operations.

Training institutions were also included in the modernization initiative. The Police Training College Hangu, Police Training School Shakas, and Dera Ismail Khan Police units were provided with anti-drone detectors and jammers designed to counter potential aerial threats.

Additionally, 98 bulletproof jackets and 150 ballistic helmets were distributed among personnel assigned to sensitive security duties.

Strengthening Counterterrorism Capacity

Speaking at the ceremony, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said equipping the police with modern vehicles, weapons, and protective equipment had become essential in light of the evolving security environment and persistent terrorism threats.

He said the new resources would enhance the professional capabilities of police personnel and provide them with improved protection while conducting operations against militants and criminal networks.

The police chief noted that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police remain on the front lines in Pakistan’s fight against terrorism, adding that officers and personnel have made immense sacrifices to maintain peace and stability in the province.
