KP IGP Orders Heightened Patrolling, Security on CPEC Route to Counter Terror Threats

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, has directed intensified patrolling and enhanced security measures along the Yarik–Hakla section of the CPEC Motorway to safeguard against potential terrorist threats and ensure public safety.

In compliance with the IGP’s orders, a high-level coordination meeting was held under the chairmanship of Regional Police Officer Dera Ismail Khan, Syed Ashfaq Anwar. The meeting was attended by DPO D.I. Khan Sahibzada Sajjad, SPs of relevant subdivisions, and officials from the CPEC Motorway. It was agreed to boost police patrolling along the route and establish joint checkposts in coordination with motorway authorities.

Additional directives included the urgent repair of damaged protective fencing and immediate legal action against individuals involved in stealing iron from the barriers or trespassing onto the motorway. Orders were also issued to prevent stray animals from entering the road and to ban the movement of unauthorised local vehicles, with strict enforcement measures.

“These preventive actions are aimed at reducing the risk of terrorist activity and road accidents along the strategic route,” a police spokesperson said. Acting on these directives, D.I. Khan Police impounded a motorcycle and registered an FIR under Sections 279 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

RPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar emphasized that under IGP Zulfiqar Hameed’s special instructions, joint efforts with the Motorway Police are underway to ensure maximum security and smooth travel on the CPEC corridor. “Such coordinated steps are essential in view of the current security landscape and will greatly benefit the public,” he added.
