Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, inaugurated the newly constructed Laki Marwat City Police Station as part of the province’s police infrastructure rehabilitation, expansion, and modernisation program.
During the ceremony, the IGP was briefed on the station’s structural design, modern facilities, and citizen-focused services. He described the new facility as a model station, emphasising that efficient and rapid service delivery remains a top priority for KP Police. He added that the upgraded infrastructure is a milestone for the residents of Laki Marwat.
Addressing regional elders during the event, Hameed commended the Marwat tribes for their historical and positive role in maintaining law and order. He praised their consistent support for police efforts in counterterrorism operations and stressed that maintaining peace is a shared responsibility. The local elders reciprocated by recognising the bravery and sacrifices of police personnel and assured continued cooperation. Deputy Commissioner Laki Marwat also attended the ceremony.
The IGP visited the Command and Control Centre at the police lines, describing its completion as crucial for provincial security. He also reviewed progress on the Safe City Project, noting that installation of surveillance cameras and the establishment of control rooms in key districts including Peshawar, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, Karak, Tank, and North Waziristan is underway. Hameed described the project as a clear reflection of public confidence and the modernisation of the police force.
Upon arrival in Laki Marwat, the IGP was warmly welcomed by Bannu Region RPO Sajjad Khan and DPO Laki Marwat Nazir Khan, with a salute from police contingents. Hameed also paid tribute at the Martyrs’ Memorial, laying flowers and offering prayers for their sacrifices. He met with the family of Head Constable Alaudin, who was recently killed in a suicide attack, offering encouragement and distributing awards and cash prizes to officers and personnel for outstanding performance. He conducted a detailed inspection of advanced equipment, including APCs, drones, sniper rifles, and modern firearms, and expressed satisfaction with the operational readiness and modernisation efforts of the force.
Highlighting counterterrorism achievements, the IGP said, “The Bannu Region Police have faced terrorism head-on under extremely challenging conditions. Our force stands like a steel wall against the enemy, defeating militants on every front. I am proud of the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of our personnel.”
He further emphasized that the police remain vigilant to protect citizens’ lives and property, and that professional performance combined with modern technology, training, and effective strategy will further strengthen law enforcement and the overall security environment in the province.
The ceremony concluded with RPO Sajjad Khan, Commissioner Bannu Khalid Mehmood, and Brigadier Haider Ali of the 55 Brigade presenting shields to the IGP in recognition of his visit and leadership.
