Under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Sohail Afridi, a high-level meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee was convened today, bringing together provincial ministers, Corps Commander Peshawar, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, and senior civil, military, and law enforcement officials.
The session commenced with a solemn tribute to the citizens, security personnel, and law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in acts of terrorism and violence across the province. Fatiha was recited, and the sacrifices of these martyrs were honored, reaffirming the province’s commitment to their legacy.
The Committee reviewed the rising trend of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and deliberated extensively on strategies to eliminate extremist elements and achieve long-term peace and stability. Recognizing the need for a unified approach, the meeting emphasized that the successful implementation of counter-terrorism policies requires coordinated engagement among political parties, public representatives, community leaders, and the federal government.
Chief Minister Afridi reaffirmed the provincial government’s resolve, stating that the government will fully utilize all available resources including the military, police, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and other institutions without hesitation, to ensure the safety and security of the people. He stressed that this comprehensive strategy is designed not only to address the root causes of terrorism but also to restore public confidence and strengthen the bond between citizens and the state.
The Committee underscored that sustainable governance, public welfare, and inclusive development are central to uniting the nation against terrorism. In the first phase of this initiative, areas affected by militancy will be transformed into Model Governance Districts, where government resources will be mobilized to address developmental, social, and economic deficiencies, ensuring equitable access to essential services.
A structured program will be implemented in these regions to enhance security, communications, healthcare, education, employment, and basic infrastructure, along with other critical public services. The Apex Committee also committed to the comprehensive care, rehabilitation, and support of temporarily displaced populations, ensuring that their dignified return contributes to long-term peace, stability, and prosperity in these communities.
Chief Minister Afridi emphasized that security and public safety remain the government’s top priority, stating: “We will not compromise on peace. The civil administration, law enforcement, and military are working together on a unified front to safeguard our citizens.”
He further stressed that the fight against terrorism is a collective responsibility: “This is our shared struggle, and it can only be won through coordinated, united efforts by all stakeholders.”
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to a holistic, long-term strategy that combines law enforcement action with governance, social services, and community development to eliminate extremism and create a secure, prosperous, and peaceful Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
