A police constable was martyred and a Frontier Constabulary (FC) havaldar injured in a deadly terrorist attack on a checkpost in Dara Adam Khel, Kohat district early Monday, in what officials describe as part of a broader campaign of India-sponsored terrorism targeting KP police.

According to police, Constable Hazrat Umar was stationed at the Tor Chappar post when militants launched a surprise pre-dawn assault under the cover of darkness. The attackers opened heavy fire, resulting in his martyrdom. FC Havaldar Bahadur Khan was injured and shifted to a local hospital.

Security forces launched a combing and clearance operation in the rugged area, believed to be a former militant transit corridor. No arrest has been made yet.

A solemn funeral prayer was held for the martyred constable at Kohat Police Lines, attended by senior officers and fellow lawmen, where tributes were paid to his bravery.

Peshawar in Crosshairs of State-Sponsored Terror

Security officials say the attack is part of a rising trend of cross-border terrorism, particularly aimed at destabilizing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s security landscape.

“As the noose tightens around militant networks in the tribal districts and Balochistan, their foreign handlers, particularly India’s state-sponsored terror apparatus — are redirecting attacks towards Peshawar and surrounding areas,” said a senior intelligence source.

He added that police and law enforcement personnel have now become prime targets, with militants seeking to demoralise frontline responders through direct assaults.

Earlier today in Peshawar, SHO Irshad Umar of Urmar Police Station in Peshawar was shot and injured by unknown gunmen. The attackers fled the area, and a search operation is underway to apprehend the culprits.

These incidents, taken together, mark a clear escalation in urban terror operations, a tactic security forces link directly to foreign-backed elements seeking to exploit soft targets.

On October 2, a remote-controlled IED blast on Kohat Road martyred a police constable, and injured three policemen when their patrol vehicle was targeted near Garhi Qamar Din.
