KP CM Faces Possible Disqualification After Forensic Findings on May 9 Unrest

May 9, CM KP Disqualification, CM Sohail Afridi

Peshawar: Political uncertainty has gripped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the completion of forensic verification of videos related to the violent incidents of May 9, carried out on court orders.

According to the forensic report, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi has been implicated in incidents of arson and damage to national property during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protests. The report states that videos provided by Peshawar police have undergone facial recognition and forensic analysis, resulting in what officials describe as clear identification of the chief minister.

Following the findings, serious constitutional and legal questions have been raised regarding Sohail Afridi’s continuation in office. Legal experts say that if courts decide the pending cases primarily on the basis of forensic evidence, the likelihood of the chief minister’s disqualification could increase significantly.

Political analysts warn that any adverse judicial ruling could trigger a political crisis in the province, potentially setting off a process to appoint a new chief minister. They say the fallout may not remain limited to the provincial government but could also have wider implications for national politics.

The developments come amid heightened political tensions, as courts continue proceedings related to the May 9 violence, which remains one of the most contentious episodes in recent political history.
