Khwarij Arrested with Explosives in Islamabad Operation

A suspected militant affiliated with the proscribed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) – Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud group – was apprehended during a late-night intelligence-based operation near Kayani Road Bypass in the Bhara Kahu area, Islamabad, early on April 17.

According to security sources, the operation was conducted under Section 4/5 of the Explosives Substances Act and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, based on a tip-off from a special informant. Sub-Inspector Bakar Sarkar, along with a designated team, reached the area around 2:30 a.m. in an official vehicle to intercept the suspect identified by the informant.

The individual, later identified as Hamad Hasan, son of Kazim Jan, resident of Sararogha Tehsil in South Waziristan, was spotted carrying a black cloth bag. Upon interception and formal search, the bag was found to contain 675 grams of explosive material, including Haitian fuse water, a nut bullet, brown safety fuse wire, and other bomb-making components. The Bomb Disposal Squad and S1 team were present at the scene to safely handle and document the recovered items.

Officials revealed that the accused is allegedly linked to the TTP’s Fitnah al-Khawarij wing and was planning to target key individuals in Islamabad. He reportedly confessed to having direct ties with the group’s commander, Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud.

A case has been registered under ATA Sections 4/5 and 7, and further investigation is underway. Authorities emphasized that timely action prevented a potentially major terrorist incident in the capital.
