In a disturbing resurgence of terrorist activity in northern Pakistan, terrorists affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), declared by the state as “Fitna al-Khawarij”, opened fire in the Martung area of Shangla district, critically injuring a police constable and his uncle.
According to local sources, the ambush took place in the remote village of Kotkay, where the victims, Constable Jehan Khan and his uncle, came under sudden and unprovoked gunfire. Both sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Puran for emergency care. Given the severity of their condition, they were later transferred to a major hospital in Swat for specialised treatment.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive search operation to track down the perpetrators. Police and intelligence agencies are actively pursuing leads.
This incident is part of a disturbing trend, as Shangla district has seen a spike in terrorist activity in recent months, triggering fear and unease among local communities. Residents report growing anxiety over the deteriorating security situation and have called on the government and security agencies to take firm and sustained action against militants.
Public voices from the region demand stricter counter-terrorism operations and increased presence of law enforcement to restore long-term peace and stability.
The banned TTP has officially claimed responsibility for the attack, further reinforcing concerns over the group’s operational resurgence in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, allegedly with external support and sanctuary across the border in Afghanistan.
