A coordinated attack by Khawarij elements on the Miryan Police Station in Bannu was successfully repelled by law enforcement personnel after a prolonged and intense exchange of fire, forcing the assailants to flee the scene. According to police sources, the Khawarij militants launched the assault using both light and heavy weaponry in an attempt to overrun the police facility. The attack triggered a fierce gun battle lasting over 50 minutes, during which the police responded with full force under the leadership of Station House Officer (SHO) Fazli Rehman.
Four personnel sustained injuries during the firefight. All injured personnel were promptly shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Khar for medical attention. A senior police official stated, “The attackers came with the intent to destabilise the region, but our forces held the line with exceptional bravery. Their response compelled the Khawarij to abandon their objective and flee.”
Security sources said traces of blood were discovered at various points around the area, indicating possible casualties among the attackers, although these reports could not be independently confirmed. In the aftermath of the failed assault, a large-scale search operation was launched in the surrounding areas. Drone surveillance is actively being used to trace the attackers’ movements and locate any nearby hideouts.
“This failed attack is a testament to the preparedness and resolve of our police force in confronting the Khawarij menace,” an official said. “The state will not allow these elements to disrupt peace through violence and fear.” The incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by Khawarij groups operating in the region, even as security forces intensify efforts to eliminate them and restore lasting peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
