Security forces have arrested a Khawarij commander of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during an intelligence-based operation in the tribal district, officials said on Wednesday. The detained commander, identified as Javed Mehsud alias Zaki, was apprehended after returning from Afghanistan. Sources said the operation was conducted on precise intelligence regarding his presence in the area. The arrest is seen as a significant development in ongoing efforts against the TTP Khawarij network in the region.
According to officials, Zaki had been involved in multiple subversive activities and was considered an important figure in the TTP’s Fitna al-Khawarij faction. He was reportedly planning further acts of sabotage in South Waziristan before being intercepted. The arrested commander has been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation, where authorities are seeking further leads on his associates and cross-border Khawarij activities.
Security forces reiterated their resolve to eliminate the menace of Khawarij from the tribal districts, vowing to continue targeted operations against their networks and facilitators.
