Gas supply across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been completely suspended following a major pipeline explosion in the Waziristan region, officials confirmed on Saturday. The incident has forced the closure of all Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations throughout the province, triggering widespread disruption to daily life and transportation.
According to government sources, Khawarij elements carried out the attack, blowing up a key gas pipeline supplying the province and significantly impacting energy distribution networks. The damaged infrastructure is considered a critical artery for gas supply to both domestic consumers and commercial sectors.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies have been deployed to the affected area to secure the site and initiate an investigation. Authorities indicated that the act appears to be a deliberate attempt to disrupt essential services and create instability in the region.
Energy officials stated that emergency response teams are working to assess the extent of the damage and begin repair operations. However, they cautioned that restoring full gas supply may take time due to the scale of the destruction and the challenging terrain of the affected region.
The shutdown of CNG stations across the province has already begun to affect transportation services, with long queues reported at fuel stations and concerns rising over alternative fuel availability. Industrial operations and households reliant on gas for cooking and heating are also expected to face significant inconvenience.
Officials emphasized that ensuring the safety of repair crews and securing the pipeline corridor remain top priorities. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with relevant departments as efforts continue to restore normalcy.
This latest incident underscores the vulnerability of critical infrastructure in sensitive regions and highlights the need for enhanced security measures to safeguard essential energy networks.
