In a disturbing sign of evolving tactics, Khawarij attempted to target the Havid Police Station in Bannu district by dropping an explosive device using a quadcopter. According to security sources, the device landed in the station’s courtyard but did not detonate, averting what could have been a deadly incident.
Following the failed attack, the area was immediately cordoned off, and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called in to safely neutralize the unexploded ordnance. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
Police officials confirmed the incident and launched a comprehensive search operation in the surrounding areas to locate those responsible.
The attempted drone strike reflects a concerning trend in the tactics of Khawarij, who have increasingly resorted to using modern technology—including commercial drones—to carry out attacks against law enforcement agencies and sensitive installations.
“The use of quadcopters by Khawarij marks a dangerous shift in their operational methods and poses a serious challenge to urban security,” said a senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where law enforcement agencies remain on high alert in the face of growing threats from technologically adaptive extremist groups.
