In a brazen act of violence, Khawarij gunmen opened fire on security forces and police checkposts in the Ziaray area of Landi Kotal tehsil, district Khyber, causing structural damage but resulting in no casualties, according to official sources.
The attack, carried out under the cover of darkness, targeted multiple joint checkposts manned by security personnel and local police. The gunfire caused partial destruction to the boundary walls and rooms of the posts. Despite the intensity of the assault, security forces responded with effective retaliatory fire, forcing the attackers to retreat into the nearby hills.
“No loss of life occurred, and all personnel remained unharmed,” a security source confirmed. “The cowardly assault by the Khawarij is yet another failed attempt to undermine the state’s authority in the region.”
Following the attack, a search and clearance operation was launched in the surrounding areas to trace the Khawarij involved. Officials believe the assault is part of a broader pattern by remnants of the outlawed group seeking to reassert themselves in the former tribal belt.
“The state and its security institutions are fully alert. These Khawarij will be hunted down and eliminated,” a senior official said.
The incident has reignited calls for unified national resolve against the Khawarij ideology, which continues to threaten peace and stability across Pakistan’s western frontier. Authorities have reiterated that no sanctuary will be allowed for such elements, and the fight will continue until complete eradication of the menace.
