Khawarij launched a deadly assault on a security forces’ check post in the Upper Kurram district, leaving one soldier martyred and seven others injured, according to security sources.
The attack targeted the Unit 155 Wing’s Hussain Mela post, located in the mountainous region of Shalozan near Hussain Qala. Khawarij opened fire on the post in a surprise strike late Wednesday night.
Lance Naik Saleem embraced martyrdom in the attack. The injured personnel include Havaldar Mauli Khan, Havaldar Jihad Hussain (Turi), Naik Yousaf, Lance Naik Syed Ayub, Signalman Abrar, Sepoy Usman, and Naib Subedar Javed Hussain (Turi).
All injured were airlifted via helicopter to a nearby military hospital where they are receiving medical treatment. Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale search operation to track down the attackers.
No terrorist group has yet claimed responsibility for the assault.
