Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has declared that any future dialogue with India must focus on three long-standing flash-points: Kashmir, terrorism, and water disputes, calling the current moment a “golden opportunity” for both nations to resolve decades-old tensions.

Speaking to a private television channel, Asif emphasized that these three core issues have defined Indo-Pak relations for the past 76 years and should be the basis of any talks. “Pakistan is the biggest victim of terrorism,” he said. “Let us use this moment to collectively address and end it.”

Referring to the recent flare-up along the border, Asif said the conflict—like most between the two countries—was rooted in the unresolved issue of Kashmir. He credited Pakistan’s military for its firm and effective response: “Our armed forces stood like an iron wall. Modi tried to drag the region into hell, but by the grace of God, we were spared.”

The minister also highlighted former U.S. President Donald Trump’s past remarks on Kashmir, noting that international voices have acknowledged the need for dialogue. “Trump himself said Kashmir must be on the table. This isn’t just a regional issue—it’s a global one.”

On the Indus Waters Treaty, Asif made clear that India has no legal grounds to unilaterally alter or suspend the agreement. “This matter was settled in 1960. There’s no room to tamper with it.”

Touching on Pakistan’s strong military and diplomatic performance during the recent escalation, he added: “India is licking its wounds. Their own parliament is turning on Modi. Except for Israel, no country stood with them. This time, the world stood with Pakistan.”

Calling it a historic moment, Asif claimed this is perhaps the greatest military and diplomatic success Pakistan has seen in its 76-year history. “Our restraint, readiness, and strength have been proven—and recognised.”
