A khariji, member of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) or Fitna Al-Khawarij as declared by the state, was reportedly killed in a border clash in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, as Pakistani forces responded to an attempted infiltration along the porous border.
According to local sources, the incident occurred in the Khuwaja Khudar area of Nazyan district, where Khawarij were allegedly attempting to cross into Pakistan from Afghan territory. The group came under fire from Pakistani border forces, and a mortar round reportedly struck and killed one khariji on the Afghan side of the border.
Sources further suggest that the banned TTP cell was likely scouting routes for movement or supply when it was intercepted. Pakistani troops have stepped up vigilance along the border in recent weeks following multiple intelligence reports about TTP’s cross-border movements and safe havens in eastern Afghanistan.
There has been no official confirmation from either side, but the Nazyan district, which borders Pakistan’s Khyber District, is known for terrorist activity and has seen periodic clashes involving splinter groups affiliated with the banned TTP.
Security analysts view such incidents as part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to disrupt terrorist infiltration and put pressure on the terrorists affiliated with Fitna Al-Khawarij believed to be operating from Afghan soil.
