An anti-terrorism court in Peshawar on Monday sentenced a khariji, term used for a terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij, to 24 years in prison after finding him guilty of possessing explosives with intent to carry out acts of terrorism.
The convict, identified as Jamsher, was arrested by Khyber district police in possession of a significant quantity of explosive materials. The case was heard by Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Wali Mohammad Khan.
According to the prosecution, Jamsher was affiliated with a banned terror outfit, or Fitna al-Khawarij, and had intended to use the explosives to conduct attacks and incite unrest in the region.
The court, after reviewing evidence and hearing arguments, found the accused guilty of all charges and handed him a 24-year prison sentence. The verdict reflects the judiciary’s firm stance on countering terrorism and maintaining public security.
Law enforcement officials praised the decision, calling it a warning to those involved in extremist activities. The case underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces and the judiciary to combat terrorism and ensure peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
