In a major breakthrough, Pakistan’s security forces successfully apprehended a key terrorist affiliated with the Fitna al-Khawarij’s Gandapur Group during an intelligence-based operation conducted near Fatah Mor, D.I. Khan.
According to security sources, the operation was launched based on credible intelligence regarding the suspect’s movements in the area. The forces executed the mission with precision, managing to capture the terrorist alive, a rare and significant success in ongoing counterterrorism efforts. The arrested militant is believed to be involved in planning and executing attacks against both civilians and law enforcement personnel in the region.
This arrest follows a similar counterterrorism engagement just a day earlier, also in Dera Ismail Khan, where another militant belonging to the same extremist network was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces. The encounter took place in the jurisdiction of Kohi Bahara Police Station, where a fierce gun battle broke out between security personnel and terrorists. One militant was neutralized during the firefight, and his body was recovered from the scene.
The Fitna al-Khawarij Gandapur Group, a violent offshoot of banned extremist elements, has been responsible for multiple targeted killings, extortion, and IED attacks in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Their affiliation with transnational terrorist networks and cross-border support structures has made them a high-priority threat in the region.
Security forces have intensified operations across D.I. Khan and adjoining areas as part of a broader national counterterrorism campaign aimed at uprooting remnants of such violent outfits. Investigations are underway, and intelligence gained from the captured terrorist is expected to help identify sleeper cells and disrupt further plots.
