A recent report released by the UK Parliament has warned that the Kashmir dispute remains the central cause of escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, cautioning that the unresolved issue could potentially trigger a nuclear conflict between the two South Asian neighbours.
The 42-page research report, released amid heightened regional anxieties, underscores that the disputed territory of Indian-occupied Kashmir lies at the heart of recurring hostilities between the two nuclear-armed states. The report traces developments from recent incidents of terrorism in Pahalgam to the eventual ceasefire, offering a comparative analysis of the responses by both nations.
According to the report, India remains adamant on seeking a bilateral resolution of the Kashmir issue while Pakistan continues to call for international mediation to achieve a just and lasting solution. The report also criticizes India for once again using a dubious incident in Kashmir to launch aggressive military operations against Pakistan, branding such actions as a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

The UK Parliament’s findings commend Pakistan for exhibiting restraint, responsibility, and adherence to international law in the face of repeated provocations. Conversely, the report accuses India of resorting to coercion, threats, and baseless allegations, while persistently ignoring UN Security Council resolutions that call for a plebiscite in Kashmir.
It further points out that India has consistently rejected international mediation efforts, including those by the United States and the United Kingdom, opting instead for unilateral military aggression that has brought the region perilously close to the brink of war.
The report expresses concern over the perceived inaction of the international community, particularly the US and UK. Although the US has reportedly engaged in behind-the-scenes diplomacy to prevent escalation, the report notes that India remained obstinate and refused to acknowledge any external role in the matter.
Experts cited in the report warned that India’s continued belligerence and quest for regional dominance through military might is pushing South Asia toward a dangerous nuclear confrontation. They emphasized that if the global powers fail to take firm notice of Indian aggression, future hostilities could lead to catastrophic consequences.
British observers have unanimously noted that the Kashmir dispute has escalated more rapidly than previous conflicts, a development they find alarming given the nuclear capabilities of both countries.
The report also refers to a recent Indian incursion on the night of May 7–8, dubbed “Operation Sandhoor”, during which Indian forces targeted civilian areas, resulting in the martyrdom of 31 civilians and injuries to over a hundred.
In response, Pakistan launched “Operation Bunyān al-Marsūs”, during which the Pakistan Air Force destroyed India’s advanced S-400 air defense system, obliterated BrahMos missile stockpiles in Nagrota, and neutralized key Indian airbases allegedly used for attacks against Pakistani civilians.
The UK Parliament’s report calls for urgent international engagement to de-escalate the situation and ensure a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir dispute, warning that failure to do so could lead to an irreversible and catastrophic conflict in the region.
