A coordinated operation involving local peace committees, police, and security forces was carried out in the Takhti Khel area of Lakki Marwat, resulting in the elimination of seven terrorists affiliated with the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). More than a dozen others were reportedly injured during the operation, according to security sources.
Among those killed was Maulvi Nusratullah Wazir, also known as Maulvi Nusrat, a senior TTP figure who had recently been appointed as the group’s commander for Dawat-o-Irshad in the Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan regions. Sources revealed that the TTP’s internal council had named him to the position only two days prior to the operation, underscoring the significance of his neutralization.
The operation followed credible intelligence indicating the presence of armed terrorists in the area. As forces moved to clear the location, a confrontation ensued, leading to the deaths of seven terrorists and injuries to several others. Authorities described the action as a major disruption to the group’s operational and ideological network in the region.
Following the operation, Bannu and Lakki Marwat police took custody of the bodies of three terrorists, while a search and clearance operation remains ongoing to ensure the area is fully secured and to apprehend any remaining elements.
Security officials emphasized that close coordination between law enforcement agencies and local peace committees continues to play a vital role in counterterrorism efforts. They reaffirmed their resolve to pursue terrorist elements relentlessly and to restore lasting peace and stability across the region.
