Gul Rahman, alias Ustad Mureed, the alleged mastermind of the deadly Jaffar Express bombing and a senior commander of the India-backed militant network Fitna al-Hindustan, has been killed under mysterious circumstances in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, security sources confirmed on September 17, 2025.
According to the sources, Gul Rahman was not only the operational commander but also a key trainer of the network’s notorious Majid Brigade. He was directly linked to a string of high-profile terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, targeting security forces, Chinese nationals, and critical infrastructure projects, including those under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Investigations have revealed that Gul Rahman and his network were behind some of Pakistan’s most shocking terrorist incidents in recent years, including the Jaffar Express bombing, the assault on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi, the Gwadar Pearl Continental Hotel attack, the Khuzdar school bus blast, the suicide attack on Karachi’s Confucius Institute, the Pakistan Stock Exchange assault, and the Quetta Railway Station bombing.
The Majid Brigade of Fitna al-Hindustan has already been designated as a global terrorist entity by the United States, while Pakistan and China have formally urged the United Nations to blacklist the group for destabilising the region and endangering international peace.
Officials said Gul Rahman’s elimination highlights Pakistan’s longstanding concerns that Afghan territory continues to serve as a launching pad for cross-border terrorism. “This development is further proof that elements hostile to Pakistan are using Afghan soil to stage attacks against our people and strategic projects,” a senior security official remarked.
Observers believe his death could intensify pressure on Kabul to take decisive action against militant groups operating from Afghan sanctuaries, amid growing international scrutiny over the use of Afghan soil for cross-border terrorism.
