The Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has claimed responsibility for a deadly roadside bombing in eastern Afghanistan, marking its first acknowledged attack in nearly four months. The blast, which targeted a Taliban vehicle in the Dara-e-Noor district of Nangarhar province, has reportedly caused multiple casualties among Taliban fighters.
In a statement released through its official propaganda channels, ISKP said: “The soldiers of the Caliphate detonated an explosive device on a Taliban vehicle in the Dara-e Noor district of Nangarhar, destroying it and killing three Taliban members.”
Local residents reported that the explosion occurred near a shrine, striking a vehicle carrying Taliban officials. Eyewitnesses claimed that three members of the Taliban were killed on the spot, while a fourth, who was critically injured, later died from his wounds.Afghan authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, and the Taliban have remained silent.
This marks a significant development in the security landscape of eastern Afghanistan, where ISKP has previously maintained a stronghold. The last major attack claimed by the group in Nangarhar was in August of last year, when ISKP targeted Taliban forces in a similarly coordinated strike. Analysts view the latest attack as a potential sign of ISKP reasserting its operational presence in the region after a prolonged period of quiet.
