Marking the first high-level diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and China since the recent Pakistan-India ceasefire, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Beijing on Monday to hold wide-ranging talks with senior Chinese leadership.
Dar is visiting China at the invitation of his counterpart, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Muhammad Sadiq. Upon arrival in the Chinese capital, the Deputy Prime Minister and his delegation received a warm welcome from senior Chinese officials at Beijing International Airport.
During his official engagements today, Dar will meet Foreign Minister Wang Yi for a comprehensive review of Pakistan-China bilateral relations. The two sides are expected to discuss key strategic, economic and regional issues, with a particular focus on the evolving security situation in South Asia, recent developments between Pakistan and India, and mutual cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
In a significant diplomatic development, a trilateral foreign ministers’ meeting involving Pakistan, China and Afghanistan will also be held in Beijing. Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is scheduled to arrive in the Chinese capital on Tuesday to participate in the talks, which are expected to address regional connectivity, counterterrorism cooperation, and the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
Speaking to the media ahead of his departure, Dar said that his visit aims to further deepen strategic communication with China and align positions on pressing regional and global challenges. “Pakistan remains committed to regional peace and stability, and we value China’s constructive role in fostering dialogue and cooperation across the region,” he stated.
