Iran Arrests Afghan Nationals Over Alleged Mossad Plot to Bomb State Broadcaster

Iranian authorities have arrested two Afghan nationals accused of working with Israel’s Mossad in a foiled plot to bomb the headquarters of Iran’s state broadcaster and target senior officials, Iranian state media reported. The suspects, described as undocumented migrants, were detained during a nighttime operation in western Tehran. According to Iranian police, they were caught attempting to transmit the live location of a high-ranking Iranian official via WhatsApp to a handler reportedly based in Germany.

Investigators allege the operatives had previously provided GPS coordinates of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) headquarters and the private residence of a senior government figure in the affluent Saadat Abad district. Authorities claim each mission earned the individuals $2,000, paid into foreign accounts.

Iran’s intelligence services have released video footage showing the men confessing to their alleged roles in the operation. The case, authorities say, is the latest in a series of Mossad-linked plots aimed at destabilizing Iran from within.

While Israel has not commented, Tehran has repeatedly accused Mossad of conducting espionage, sabotage, and targeted assassinations inside Iran. International observers have called for independent verification of the claims, given the opaque nature of such cases and the political sensitivities involved.

The arrests underscore heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, as both nations continue to engage in a shadow war spanning cyber operations, intelligence networks, and proxy conflicts across the region.
