The conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel intensified on Sunday, with strikes on central Iran, missile barrages in Gulf states, and ongoing clashes in Lebanon and Israel, resulting in significant casualties and widespread destruction.
Iranian cities faced heavy bombardment in the early hours of Sunday. An attack on Isfahan reportedly killed at least 15 people, while residential areas in Shiraz were also struck. Iranian state media condemned the attacks, describing them as “terrorist and anti-human” acts by the US and Israel. Local authorities reported that more than 10,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed, with total casualties since the conflict began on February 28 exceeding 1,400.
In addition, Brigadier-General Abdullah Jalali Nasab, a senior Iranian military figure, was killed in the strikes, adding to a series of high-profile deaths including Iran’s defence minister, IRGC commander-in-chief, and chief of staff of the armed forces. Iran confirmed the continuation of its missile and drone operations against US bases in the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait, referring to its 50th wave of attacks.
Iranian authorities also reported arrests in northwestern Iran of 20 individuals allegedly attempting to provide military intelligence to Israel. The Iranian government issued warnings to US companies and citizens, urging people to avoid facilities with US investments following attacks on civilian-industrial targets.
The conflict’s escalation has affected multiple Gulf nations:
-
Saudi Arabia: Four drones intercepted over Riyadh; two people killed and 12 injured. Six ballistic missiles were destroyed in al-Kharj governorate.
-
UAE: Iran launched missiles and drones against US forces at al-Dhafra airbase. Debris from intercepts injured a Jordanian citizen near the port of Fujairah. Abu Dhabi criticized Tehran for what it described as “moral bankruptcy.”
-
Bahrain: Sirens were activated; police arrested six individuals for spreading misinformation. Two deaths and multiple injuries were reported.
-
Kuwait: Missiles struck Ahmad al-Jaber airbase, wounding three soldiers; drones damaged airport radar systems.
-
Qatar: Four ballistic missiles and drones from Iran were successfully intercepted.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the Strait of Hormuz remains “controlled but not closed.” Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump called for a naval coalition to safeguard passage through the strategic waterway. He reiterated that Iran had approached the US with potential peace negotiations, but stated terms were unacceptable.
Trump reiterated support for military pressure while claiming Iran “wants to make a deal.” The US warned news outlets against critical coverage of the conflict, threatening the revocation of broadcasting licenses for outlets reporting “distortions.” Domestic polling shows public opposition: 53% of voters reportedly oppose US strikes, and nearly 75% reject ground troop deployment to Iran.
Israel faced Iranian missile and rocket fire, triggering sirens and injuries in central Israel, including Holon. At least 108 people were hospitalized in the past 24 hours. The country reported running critically low on ballistic missile interceptors.
In southern Lebanon, clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces intensified. Israeli strikes killed at least five people, including a child, and wounded seven. Air raids in Qantara killed an entire family, including two children. Since February 28, Israeli attacks have reportedly killed 826 people and displaced more than 800,000 in Lebanon.
The World Health Organization confirmed that 14 health workers were killed in southern Lebanon in the past 24 hours. Across the region, residential areas, infrastructure, and civilian populations continue to bear the brunt of escalating attacks and retaliatory strikes.
Analysts warn that the ongoing conflict risks further destabilizing the Gulf and Levant regions, with growing humanitarian crises and economic disruption. Diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire remain stalled, as military operations continue in multiple theaters.
