In a scathing exposé, independent Indian media platform NewsLaundry has accused mainstream Indian news channels of abandoning journalistic ethics and devolving into propaganda machines for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. The outlet claims that the term “Godi Media” — meaning “lapdog media” — is no longer a metaphor, but a fitting symbol of the Indian media’s complete subservience to power.
In a recent video report, NewsLaundry criticized Indian media’s conduct following the Pahalgam false flag incident, saying that news channels resorted to “unethical, aggressive, and hyper-nationalist coverage” that not only distorted facts but also incited hostility toward Pakistan without any investigation or evidence.
The report highlights how Indian anchors, without waiting for official probes, immediately blamed Pakistan, with some even calling for war, revenge attacks, and the annihilation of an entire nation. NewsLaundry noted that “some called for beheading, others for wiping Pakistan off the map,” while debates quickly turned into televised warmongering.
The platform also pointed out how Indian media ignored basic journalistic principles, failed to question security lapses or government responsibility, and instead used the incident to push the Modi regime’s Hindutva narrative, including promoting hate speech against Muslims.
Furthermore, NewsLaundry criticized the trend of inviting fake or token Pakistani guests on air, only to ridicule or threaten them, as well as using opposition party supporters (from PML-N and PTI) as political pawns in cross-border propaganda.
The report singles out prominent anchors — including Arnab Goswami — for fuelling anti-Pakistan hysteria while deliberately avoiding any criticism of Modi’s policies or India’s internal failures. It added that while Pahalgam victims received minimal attention, Indian media focused almost entirely on war rhetoric.
NewsLaundry concluded that Indian media’s conduct has not only alienated global audiences but turned Indian news channels and anchors into an international symbol of shame. “The lies are now so transparent that no one believes them anymore,” the report stated.
