India, Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire Following U.S. Mediation: President Trump

United States President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire, crediting American mediation for bringing both nuclear-armed neighbors to the negotiating table.

In a statement released on his official social media account, President Trump said that “India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire” and praised the leadership of both countries for demonstrating wisdom and restraint.

“Congratulations to both nations,” President Trump added, commending Pakistan and India for their responsible conduct at a critical time.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed the ceasefire in an interview with Geo News, stating, “Pakistan and India have agreed to an immediate cessation of hostilities.”

The ceasefire agreement comes after a series of escalatory exchanges. According to official sources, Indian forces launched coordinated strikes on five locations across Pakistan and Azad Kashmir during the nights of May 6 and 7. Pakistan’s armed forces responded with full force, reportedly shooting down five Indian aircraft.

Despite multiple warnings from Islamabad, Indian aggression continued, including a sequence of drone and missile attacks targeting Pakistani air bases.

In a decisive response early this morning, Pakistan launched retaliatory strikes, reportedly destroying several Indian airfields including Udhampur, Adampur, and Pathankot. Pakistan also carried out a cyberattack on Maharashtra’s electric grid, causing widespread disruption, and disabled India’s military satellite systems. In addition, Pakistani drones conducted surveillance missions for several hours over Gujarat, the home state of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bhathinda airfield was also reportedly rendered inoperative by Pakistan’s precision strikes.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing the nation, said, “Alhamdulillah, the Pakistan Armed Forces have delivered a coordinated and powerful response. India’s rejection of impartial investigations into the Pahalgam incident further escalated tensions. Despite repeated provocations, Pakistan exercised maximum restraint.”

He added, “India targeted innocent civilians in its unprovoked assaults. Today, our brave armed forces have responded with overwhelming force and avenged the blood of our martyrs. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our nation and armed forces on this successful operation. We are determined to thwart India’s malicious designs.”

The agreement for an immediate ceasefire is being viewed as a diplomatic breakthrough amid fears of a wider conflict in the region.
