Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has raised alarm at the UN Security Council over the escalating crisis of enforced disappearances in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, accusing India of systematically covering up grave human rights abuses.
Addressing the Council, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad revealed that more than 2,000 Kashmiris have been detained under the pretext of counter terrorism, as India intensifies its crackdown on dissent. He further alleged that thousands of unmarked and unidentified graves have been discovered across the region, indicating widespread extrajudicial killings by Indian forces.
“These are not isolated incidents,” he told the Council. “Kashmiris are abducted, tortured, and murdered. India is refusing to allow forensic investigations into over 7,000 mass graves, an act that suggests a deliberate attempt to erase evidence of state-sponsored atrocities.”

The Pakistani envoy warned that the issue of enforced disappearances has reached the level of a humanitarian crisis, calling on the international community to break its silence and take urgent action. He criticised India for trying to crush the Kashmiri people’s legitimate right to self-determination through fear, incarceration, and systemic violence.
Ambassador Ahmad urged the UN to press India for transparency, accountability, and to allow independent investigations into human rights violations in the disputed territory. He concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s call for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people.
