An improvised explosive device (IED) went off outside a residence in the Dabar area of Mamond tehsil in Bajaur, triggering panic in the locality though no casualties were reported. According to initial reports, the explosive device had been planted at the gate of the house belonging to Syed Rehman, son of Bacha Khan. The powerful blast completely destroyed the gate but miraculously caused no loss of life.
Local residents and police sources believe the attack is part of an alarming trend of IED attacks being carried out by Khawarij militants as a means of extortion. These militant elements are reportedly demanding money from locals and resorting to violence when their demands are not met.
Soon after the explosion, a heavy police contingent reached the site, cordoned off the area, and launched a formal investigation into the incident. Law enforcement agencies are actively working to trace those responsible for the blast.
The incident has sparked fresh fears among the residents of Mamond, a region that has seen a resurgence in militant activity in recent months. Locals are calling on the authorities to take immediate action to curb extortionist violence and ensure the safety of citizens.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. Further developments are awaited as investigations continue.
