Fresh clashes erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber and Mohmand districts after what security officials described as unprovoked cross-border firing targeting Pakistani border posts.
According to security sources, Pakistani border security positions in Mohmand district came under fire from across the frontier. Similar incidents were reported in the Bazaar Zakhakhel and Jarobi sectors of Khyber district, where exchanges between forces of the two countries were ongoing at the time of reporting.
Officials said Pakistani forces responded promptly and effectively, forcing the attackers to retreat. Heavy weapons were reportedly used by both sides during the engagements, underscoring the intensity of the confrontation.
Security sources maintained that the firing originated from Afghan Taliban positions and described the attempted targeting of Pakistani check posts as a failed act of aggression.
The latest escalation follows a similar incident a day earlier, when Afghan Taliban elements allegedly opened fire on Pakistani border posts in Khyber. In that engagement, Pakistani forces conducted retaliatory strikes that, according to security officials, resulted in the destruction of several hostile check posts across the border and caused significant human, material and strategic losses.
Border areas in Khyber and Mohmand have remained on heightened alert amid repeated cross-border incidents in recent days. Reinforcements have reportedly been deployed, and surveillance measures intensified to prevent infiltration attempts or further escalation.
Authorities have reiterated that Pakistan’s response remains defensive and aimed at safeguarding territorial integrity, while warning that any future aggression along the frontier will be met with firm action.
