Harming Pakistan Akin to Attacking Islam, Say Ulema

Leading scholars from all major Islamic schools of thought in Pakistan have declared a unified stance against anti-state elements, vowing to confront any threat to national security with full force and unity.

Speaking at the Paigham-e-Pakistan Conference held at Peshawar Press Club, Chief Khateeb of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and President of Muttahida Shariat Mahaz Pakistan, Maulana Muhammad Tayyab Qureshi, warned that anyone attempting to destabilise Pakistan would be considered an enemy of Islam itself.

“Damaging Pakistan’s peace is equivalent to attacking the soul of Islam. The Ulema will collectively foil any such conspiracy, and we will defend every inch of this country with our own hands,” he said.

Flanked by senior scholars from Deobandi, Barelvi, Shia, and Ahl-e-Hadith sects, Maulana Qureshi praised the Pakistan Army’s efforts in neutralising threats posed by the India-Israel nexus, particularly in Balochistan and along Iran’s borders. He also congratulated the Iranian government on its recent strategic successes against Israel, describing them as a “victory for the Muslim world.”

The clerics expressed full support for the military’s operations, including Operation Bunyan al-Marsoos, and condemned foreign conspiracies seeking to weaken Pakistan through terrorism and cyber-warfare.

“Thanks to Modi, the people and army of Pakistan have come closer than ever. The bond between them is now a national strength,” Qureshi added, stressing that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — once a terrorism hotspot — now needs unity and vigilance more than ever.

Shia scholar Maulana Abid Hussain Shakiri echoed these sentiments, urging all scholars and speakers to promote harmony from their pulpits and avoid sectarian rhetoric. He also praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts with Iran, saying, “Today, the Pakistani flag is flying in Tehran’s squares, and their parliament is passing resolutions in our support.”

JUI-F leader Maulana Iqbal Shah Haidari stressed that any individual or group working for peace would have his party’s full backing, particularly in the context of Muharram, a month of great spiritual significance and a time requiring heightened unity in the province.

Ahl-e-Hadith leader Sheikh Ubaid emphasized the need to control social media propaganda and called for cyber-crime action against elements spreading religious hatred online.

Barelvi scholar Maulana Hassan Al-Maab pledged his full support for the Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative, urging fellow clerics to speak on the sanctity of Muharram and the message of peace it embodies.

As the conference concluded, all scholars present, under Maulana Tayyab Qureshi’s leadership, joined hands in a symbolic show of solidarity, chanting “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Long live Pakistan Army.”

In a visit to the Peshawar Press Club President’s office, the Ulema also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the journalist community, especially given the club’s own history as a target of terrorism.

Finally, Maulana Qureshi reminded the gathering that Muharram is a month of sacrifice, unity, and reverence, honouring both Hazrat Umar (RA) and Imam Hussain (AS), and that the true message of this month is peace, tolerance, and mutual respect. He reaffirmed that the scholars, in cooperation with government institutions, are committed to ensuring peaceful observance of Muharram across the country.
