At least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured when armed men opened fire on a group of civilians in western Afghanistan’s Herat province, local sources said.
The incident took place in the Deh Mehri area of Herat in Injil district, located between Injil and Zindah, Jan districts, where the victims had reportedly gone for recreation.
According to local accounts, unidentified gunmen suddenly opened fire on the civilians, triggering panic and heavy casualties in the area. The locality is reported to be predominantly inhabited by Shia residents.
So far, 10 bodies have been transferred to hospitals in Herat, while at least 30 injured individuals are receiving treatment. Officials have not yet issued any statement on the incident.
Sources say the casualty count may rise further as rescue and medical efforts continue, with fears that the attack could expand into a larger-scale tragedy.
No group has claimed responsibility for the shooting so far, and the motive remains unclear.
