A deadly grenade attack near Bilal Mosque in Gwadar shook the city on Sunday, leaving three civilians injured and resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire between police and suspected terrorists.
According to Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Balochistan government, unknown assailants launched a grenade at a residential house near the mosque, triggering panic and chaos in the area. Quick to respond, local police arrived at the scene and intercepted the attackers as they attempted to flee.
A gunfight ensued, during which one terrorist was killed and another sustained injuries. Tragically, police officer Muhammad Khumari was martyred in the line of duty during the exchange. His sacrifice is being hailed by authorities as a courageous act in the face of terror.
“The swift response of our police force prevented further loss of life, but we mourn the loss of a brave officer,” Shahid Rind stated, confirming that an investigation is underway and security in the area has been heightened.
The attack has once again raised concerns over the fragile security environment in parts of Balochistan, particularly in strategic areas like Gwadar, where development projects are ongoing under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Security forces have cordoned off the area, and a search operation is currently in progress to apprehend any remaining accomplices.
