Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has raised concerns over the province facing terrorist threats from across the Afghan border, alleging that militants are being supported by India, and highlighted that the provincial police lack sufficient weapons and resources to counter these threats.
The governor made the remarks during a visit to Governor House Peshawar by participants of the 18th National Workshop Balochistan, led by Brigadier Bilal Ghafoor. The delegation included students and faculty members from various universities in Balochistan.
Addressing the workshop participants, Governor Kundi welcomed them and extended New Year greetings. He spoke on a range of topics, including law and order, education, development, counter-terrorism measures, and the province’s natural resources.
Governor Kundi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan share cultural ties and face common security risks due to their proximity to the Afghan border. He added that despite funding for counter-terrorism operations, the KP Police have not been adequately equipped, and stressed the need for intelligence-based operations to eliminate militants.
He further stated that some recent terrorist incidents involved Afghan nationals, and that propaganda against security agencies is undermining their efforts. The governor emphasized that political disputes should remain within the political domain, rather than targeting security institutions.
On education, Governor Kundi highlighted the importance of serious investment and practical measures, noting that PKR 4 billion has been allocated in the fiscal year budget for the province’s 34 public universities. He stressed that sufficient funding is essential to achieve meaningful educational outcomes.
He also mentioned that the province has untapped potential in oil, gas, and hydropower, and urged the youth to contribute to the nation’s progress through education and skill development.
Governor Kundi concluded by noting that international leaders are visiting Pakistan, and that all sectors, including the business community, should leverage these opportunities for the country’s diplomatic and economic advancement.
