Fresh Clashes Reported Near Balochistan-Helmand Border as Afghan Taliban Resume Unauthorized Military Constructions

Tensions flared once again along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Sunday as fresh clashes were reported near Bahramcha, a border area in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, adjacent to Pakistan’s Balochistan region.

According to security sources, the latest skirmish between Afghan Taliban fighters and Pakistani border forces was triggered by unauthorized military construction on the Afghan side. The Afghan side reportedly attempted to establish new border posts close to the frontier without prior coordination or mutual agreement, sparking resistance from Pakistani forces.

This is not the first such incident. In recent past a similar confrontation occurred in the same region, prompting emergency-level bilateral negotiations to de-escalate the situation. At the time, officials from both sides had agreed to halt provocative actions and maintain communication.

However, despite repeated diplomatic efforts, Afghan authorities appear to be continuing the construction of border infrastructure in violation of established protocols — a move viewed by Islamabad as a direct challenge to border stability and mutual trust.

The issue of unilateral post-building by the Afghan Taliban has been a recurring source of friction in recent months, with Pakistani officials stressing the importance of joint mechanisms to resolve border matters peacefully.

Following today’s reported clash, local sources confirm that fresh rounds of talks have once again been initiated between Pakistani and Afghan officials in an effort to defuse the situation
