Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police patrol in Bajaur district, martyring four personnel and injuring two others, police sources confirmed.
The attack took place in the Nawagai Kalay area of Tehsil Khar, where the Bajaur Police’s Ababeel Squad was conducting routine patrol duties during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to officials, armed assailants ambushed the patrol unit, triggering an exchange of fire. Four policemen embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. The fallen personnel were identified as Yar Zada, Daud, and Imran, while authorities were verifying details of the fourth martyr at the time of reporting.
Two injured officers, identified as Irshad and Aziz, were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar for medical treatment.
Security forces cordoned off the area following the attack and launched a search operation to trace the perpetrators. Officials said further investigation was underway to determine the identity and affiliations of the attackers.
The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in the tribal district, where police and security forces remain on alert amid persistent militant threats.
