Security forces foiled a major militant assault in the Bagan area of Kurram district, killing four Khawarij in a fierce gun battle following a sniper attack on a check post on Sunday night.
According to security sources, more than two dozen terrorists affiliated with the banned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) declared by the state as Fitna al-Khawarij launched a coordinated assault on a security checkpoint in the Mandori area. The terrorists initially attempted to target personnel using sniper fire in an apparent effort to weaken defences.
However, the alert response of stationed troops quickly turned the tables. Security forces retaliated with precision, neutralising four militants while forcing the remaining attackers to retreat into nearby terrain.
Four personnel from the security forces sustained minor injuries during the exchange of fire and were treated at a nearby military facility.
The incident marks yet another foiled attempt by militants to destabilise the region, as security forces continue to maintain pressure on terrorist elements operating along the western border areas.
A search and clearance operation has since been launched in the surrounding areas to track down the fleeing militants and prevent any further infiltration attempts.
Security officials praised the swift and coordinated response of the troops, reiterating the resolve to eliminate all threats posed by anti-state elements.
