Former U.S. Official Supports Pakistan’s Call for Independent Probe into Pahalgam Attack

WASHINGTON: Former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for South Asia, Robin Raphael, has endorsed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s proposal to conduct an impartial investigation into the recent Pahalgam attack, backing the idea of involving neutral experts.

In an interview with Hamid Mir on Geo News’s Capital Talk from Harvard University, Raphael described Pakistan’s offer for an independent investigation as a “positive development.” She emphasized that blaming anyone just five minutes after the attack is “highly inappropriate” and called for a careful, measured approach to the situation.

“Investigating this incident impartially is the right move,” Raphael said, stressing the importance of allowing neutral parties to examine the facts. “Rushed accusations only escalate tensions without resolving anything.”

She also urged the international community to play an active role in de-escalating the growing tensions between Pakistan and India. “The world must step in immediately to help calm the situation,” she added, highlighting the urgency of addressing the conflict before it spirals further.
