At least five people were killed when unidentified assailants opened fire on a passenger vehicle in Lower Kurram, officials said. According to police, the attackers targeted the vehicle as it was passing through the area, killing five passengers on the spot. The assailants managed to flee after the assault.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, while a search operation was launched in the area. Police said an investigation was under way to ascertain the motive and trace those behind the attack.
