Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the exceptional leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir, stating that under his command, Pakistan not only crushed India’s recent aggression but restored strategic balance in the region and elevated the nation’s morale to new heights.
Addressing officers at the Command and Staff College in Quetta, the prime minister said Pakistan’s armed forces, under the unified command of Field Marshal Asim Munir, delivered a historic response to Indian hostilities, demonstrating unshakeable resolve, unmatched professionalism, and national unity in the face of provocation.
“India sought to exploit the Pahalgam incident as a cover for aggression, deliberately targeting innocent civilians,” the prime minister said. “But our armed forces responded with full force. The Pakistan Air Force struck seven high value Indian targets in a precise and historic operation an act that reshaped the strategic equation.”
He confirmed that following India’s missile attacks on May 6, Pakistan retaliated decisively by land and air. “This wasn’t just retaliation it was a bold reversal. Pakistan turned the tide of conflict. And this monumental success was made possible by the strategic brilliance of Field Marshal Asim Munir.”
Shehbaz Sharif declared that the entire nation stood behind its armed forces and that Field Marshal Munir had proved himself worthy of the highest military distinction. “His leadership delivered a historic victory that will be remembered for generations.”
The prime minister also praised Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Babar Sidhu, for his extraordinary operational command, including the downing of Indian aircraft. “India faced humiliation on both the military and diplomatic fronts,” he added.
Reiterating Pakistan’s firm stance on water security, Shehbaz Sharif said, “We will never allow India to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty or use water as a weapon. Our response will always be resolute.”
On the economic front, the prime minister highlighted major gains, noting that inflation had been brought down from 38 percent to single digits, and revenues had increased by 28 percent. He said Pakistan’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had stabilised the economy, but long-term stability required structural reforms at the grassroots level.
He added that smuggling, which had long plagued the economy, had been significantly reduced over the past year due to targeted operations overseen by Field Marshal Munir. “Smuggling has become a national cancer—but we are surgically removing it, and the results are visible,” he said.
The prime minister also mentioned the launch of a faceless customs assessment system at Karachi Port and his weekly reviews with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) as part of the government’s anti-corruption and tax reform efforts.
Concluding his remarks, Shehbaz Sharif said the recent military success had reignited national confidence. “This is a defining moment. As a nation, we must rise to the occasion. Greatness demands unity, sacrifice, and tireless effort and Pakistan is ready.”
