Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is set to undertake an official visit to the United States later this week for a fresh round of high-level military and strategic consultations with senior American defence officials, official sources confirmed.

The visit comes amid a renewed focus on strengthening Pakistan–U.S. defence cooperation and will include engagements at the Pentagon and other key national security platforms. The discussions are expected to cover a range of issues including bilateral military coordination, regional stability, and evolving global security challenges.

According to sources familiar with the agenda, the COAS will hold meetings with top U.S. military leadership, including counterparts from the Department of Defence and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Both sides are expected to review ongoing defence collaboration and explore avenues for enhanced interoperability, joint training, and intelligence-sharing.

This will be Field Marshal Munir’s second visit to the U.S. since assuming command, following his high-profile trip in June 2025, during which he held a landmark meeting with U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House. That engagement, which included an extended Oval Office session, was widely viewed as a symbolic reset in strategic relations between the two countries.

During that earlier visit, President Trump lauded Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and counter-terrorism efforts, while Field Marshal Munir conveyed Islamabad’s appreciation for U.S. support in de-escalating regional tensions and fostering long-term security cooperation.

The current visit, however, is expected to be more operational in focus, with both sides keen to expand practical collaboration on pressing global and regional defence matters, including the evolving situation in the Middle East, security in the Indo-Pacific, and broader geopolitical realignments.

It also follows the late July visit of CENTCOM Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla to Pakistan, during which he met senior Pakistani military officials and was awarded the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) in recognition of his contributions to Pakistan–U.S. defense ties.

Defence observers view Field Marshal Munir’s latest trip as a sign of sustained momentum in military diplomacy between Islamabad and Washington — and a potential stepping stone toward a more integrated, long-term strategic partnership.
