The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of Pakistan, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held a high-level meeting with prominent Shia religious scholars to discuss national security and the critical role of religious leaders in promoting unity, tolerance, and harmony across the country. The meeting underscored Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to address extremism and prevent the misuse of Afghan territory for terrorism.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the CDS emphasized the urgent need to counter misleading narratives, sectarianism, and foreign conspiracies that threaten social cohesion. Referring to the ongoing counter-terrorism initiative, Operation Ghazab-Lil-Haq, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance against the use of Afghan soil for attacks targeting Pakistan.
During the discussions, the CDS called on the Afghan Taliban to halt terrorist activities directed against Pakistan and highlighted the armed forces’ continued commitment to intelligence-based operations against terrorists and their networks, both within Pakistan and across its borders.
“Religious leaders play a pivotal role in fostering national unity, tolerance, and harmony,” Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir stated. “They must actively counter false information, sectarian narratives, and external conspiracies. Their engagement is essential to eliminating extremism and promoting national cohesion.”
The CDS also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions while underscoring that incitement of violence in the name of religion will not be tolerated. “No acts of violence in other countries will be allowed to justify unrest within Pakistan,” he said.
Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed that all terrorist elements, their hideouts, and facilitators will be targeted through decisive operations, emphasizing that Operation Ghazab-Lil-Haq aims to eliminate terrorism wherever it exists. Intelligence-driven actions will continue to ensure Pakistan’s security and protect its citizens.
The religious scholars present at the meeting condemned all forms of violence committed in the name of religion and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement and security agencies to maintain peace, stability, and the rule of law across Pakistan.
The meeting reflects Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to strengthening civil-military coordination, countering extremism, and ensuring that religious leadership contributes positively to the nation’s security and social harmony.
