Federal Government Approves Transformation of Frontier Constabulary into Nationwide Federal Force

The federal government has decided to transform the Frontier Constabulary (FC) into a nationwide federal force, granting it jurisdiction across the entire country, including all four provinces, Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, sources revealed.

The federal cabinet has approved amendments to the Frontier Constabulary Act of 1915, paving the way for the issuance of an ordinance that will formally expand the FC’s mandate beyond its current regional scope.

Following the implementation of the ordinance, the restructured force will be renamed the Federal Constabulary, with recruitment drives to be launched across the country and regional offices established nationwide.

The reorganization plan includes a new command structure under which officers from the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) will lead the Federal Constabulary. The revamped force will be mandated to operate in support of internal security, law enforcement, and peacekeeping operations throughout Pakistan.

Sources stated that this transformation is aimed at strengthening and centralizing the internal security apparatus at the national level.

Defence analysts have termed the move a significant step toward building a more cohesive and integrated response mechanism to internal security challenges, underscoring its potential to bolster public safety and national cohesion.

The Federal Constabulary is expected to play a key role in maintaining law and order, especially in areas facing complex security dynamics, while also ensuring better coordination among various civil armed forces.

The decision marks a major shift in the country’s security architecture and reflects the federal government’s broader strategy to modernize and unify policing and paramilitary capabilities under a federal framework.
