BANNU: In a tragic incident highlighting the ongoing security challenges in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, militants affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) shot dead a former army serviceman near Haveid Adda in Bannu on Tuesday.
The victim, a Hafiz-e-Quran who had left the army about two years ago, was shot just steps away from Haveid Adda. He was critically injured and later succumbed to his wounds in hospital.
This targeted killing comes amid a surge in militant activity, with growing evidence of Afghan Taliban patronage and facilitation. Recent security operations have resulted in the death of numerous Afghan nationals, highlighting the cross-border dimensions of the threat.
The persistent violence in Bannu and surrounding districts underscores the need for a decisive and sustained security operation to combat these threats and restore stability.
