In a forceful response to India’s latest escalation, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry accused the Indian military of targeting Pakistan’s Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project, damaging the Noseri Dam in a “reckless and unlawful act of water aggression” that, he warned, will not go unanswered.
Terming the strike a dangerous violation of international law and a threat to civilian infrastructure, the DG ISPR said, “Targeting a country’s water reservoirs is an act of desperation, a violation of wartime conventions, and a crime against humanity. India’s delusions will be corrected.”
Addressing the media on the night between May 6 and 7, Major General Sharif revealed that Indian strikes had martyred 26 civilians and injured 46 others. “These were not military targets. As seen by both national and international media, India struck civilian areas—homes, mosques, and critical infrastructure,” he said.
Responding to the Indian assault, Pakistan Air Force brought down five attacking Indian aircraft—three Rafales, one MiG, and one Sukhoi—over Bathinda, Jammu, and Srinagar. “Our airspace remains secure. None of the hostile aircraft breached Pakistan’s territory, and all strategic assets are fully protected,” the military spokesperson confirmed.
He called India’s attack under the cover of darkness a cowardly act. “Pakistan’s armed forces are a brave and disciplined force, bound by duty and driven by the spirit of martyrdom. Defending the motherland is our honour, and we will retaliate with strength—but strictly in self-defence.”
Among the sites struck were multiple mosques. In Ahmadpur, several were injured including three girls; in Masjid Abbas, a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy were martyred while their family members sustained injuries. Muridke saw three more lives lost after a mosque was hit. Sialkot and Shakargarh were also targeted, though no casualties were reported.
“The deliberate targeting of places of worship is not just a violation of international norms—it reflects the extremist Hindutva mindset of the Modi government,” Major General Sharif said. “This is not a military strategy—it is an ideological war on humanity.”
He further confirmed that India violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control, resulting in five civilian deaths, including a child. Pakistan responded with “full force and precision” to the unprovoked aggression.
The DG ISPR clarified that the visits of national and international journalists to Muridke and Bahawalpur were scheduled in advance and were not a reaction to Indian propaganda.
“India must never confuse Pakistan’s restraint with weakness,” he concluded. “We have responded—and we will respond again, decisively and within the bounds of our defensive doctrine. The enemy’s illusion of impunity ends now.”
