In a deadly ambush near Miranshah Bypass in North Waziristan, Commander Tawab, a former terrorist turned pro-government militia leader, was killed along with two of his associates, according to local sources.
The attack, allegedly carried out by the banned terrorist group Fitna al-Khawarij, has sparked fears of renewed infighting among rival Khawarij factions and pro-state elements in the region. Commander Tawab, known for surrendering to the state and helping reintegrate former terrorist, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital after the targeted shooting.
Two of his aides died on the spot during the gunfire, which reportedly took place in broad daylight. While multiple groups have claimed responsibility for the assassination via posts on X (formerly Twitter), insiders suggest the attack was orchestrated by rival terrorist factions opposed to Tawab’s allegiance with the state.
Security forces are reportedly investigating the incident, as tensions rise across the volatile tribal belt.
