A major terrorist attack was averted in Rawalpindi thanks to the swift and precise intelligence-based operation conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and a sensitive security agency, resulting in the arrest of a highly dangerous operative affiliated with the Khawarij group.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the arrested individual, identified as Musa, had completed reconnaissance of several sensitive locations in Rawalpindi and was in the final stages of planning a terrorist attack. The arrest was made during a carefully executed intelligence-led raid based on credible information regarding imminent threats to public safety.
The CTD revealed that Musa had travelled multiple times to Afghanistan for training and maintained direct contact with a senior commander of the Khawarij network. During the raid, a large cache of explosives and weapons was recovered from the suspect, including high-grade explosive material, hand grenades, three detonators, a seven-foot safety fuse wire, a remote-control button, prima card, and a substantial quantity of live ammunition.
The spokesperson further stated that the CTD has lodged an FIR against the accused and initiated a comprehensive investigation to uncover the full extent of the plot. It was also disclosed that the arrested Khawarij member had recently filmed videos of sensitive sites and circulated them on social media as part of his operational activities.
Security officials praised the successful operation, noting that the timely intervention had potentially saved countless lives and thwarted a catastrophic event. Investigations are ongoing to trace the suspect’s network and any additional accomplices involved in the plot.
