CTD Nabs 34 Khawarij Including 3 Key Khawarij Operatives in Sweeping Intelligence Based Crackdown Across Punjab

In a significant blow to terror networks, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab arrested 34 Khawarij suspected including three high-profile operatives linked to the proscribed Khawarij outfit during an extensive series of intelligence-based operations conducted across multiple districts in May.

The month long crackdown, part of the CTD’s proactive counter terrorism strategy, targeted suspected hideouts in Lahore, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, Nankana Sahib, Mianwali, Gujranwala, and Jhelum. Among those arrested were two Khawarij militants apprehended in Lahore and another captured in Bahawalpur.

CTD officials confirmed that explosive materials and other evidence indicative of planned subversive activities were recovered during the operations. The arrested suspects are believed to have been actively plotting acts of terrorism aimed at destabilizing peace in the region.

“Each arrest is the result of precise intelligence gathering and swift coordination,” a senior CTD official stated. “Neutralising these threats before they could strike is a testament to the dedication and vigilance of our field units.”

In addition to the targeted arrests, CTD teams carried out extensive combing operations during which 604 individuals were taken into custody for screening. These operations are part of an ongoing effort to identify and disrupt sleeper cells and support networks embedded within communities.

The CTD reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding Punjab from the menace of extremism. “Our message to terrorist networks is clear: there is no safe haven for violence in this province. We will pursue every lead, dismantle every cell, and bring every perpetrator to justice,” the spokesperson added.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest law enforcement office or CTD helpline.
